Classic Pesto Sauce Recipe



Veg CD ACC Italian 10mins

This is an authentic Italian pesto sauce recipe. To make it in the traditional way, use a mortar and pestle.


Serves 4    Cold  Vegetarian  Nuts Herbs Accompaniment  Italy  Mediterranean  Europe  Gluten Wheat free  healthy Eating




50g/2oz Fresh Basil Leaves

1-2 Garlic Cloves

3 tbsp Pine Nuts

120ml/4fl.oz. Olive Oil

50g/2oz freshly grated Parmesan Cheese




1. Place the basil, pine nuts and garlic in a food processor and process until finely chopped and well mixed.
2. With the machine still running, gradually add the olive oil and continue to process until the pesto is almost smooth.
3. Transfer to a bowl and stir in the cheese until well mixed. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Serving Suggestions

Serve as it is over vegetables or pasta
Can also be used as an ingredient in recipes which call for pesto
