Two-Bean Burgers

400g/14oz Tinned Black Beans, drained
400g/14oz Tinned Kidney Beans, drained
3 Garlic Cloves, crushed
1 Onion, grated
1 Egg, beaten
75g/3oz Dry Breadcrumbs
4 tbsp Freshly Chopped Coriander
Salt and Cayenne Pepper
Other Ingredients
Vegetable Oil
8 Thin Slices Cheddar Cheese




1. Place the drained beans in a food processor and process until it forms a chunky mixture then transfer to a mixing bowl, add the remaining burger ingredients and mix until well blended.

2. Form into 8 small burgers. Brush with oil, place oiled side down and cook over hot coals for 5 minutes.

3. Brush the top with oil, turn and cook for  3 minutes then place a slice of cheese on the top of each burger and continue to cook, without turning, for a further 3 minutes until the cheese has just melted. Serve immediately.



Serving Suggestions


Serve on their own or in a bun with garnishes such as shredded lettuce, tomato slices, pickled gherkin slices, mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise.

Use any hard cheese you have to hand such as  double  Gloucester

Substitute the tarragon with thyme

Using a hamburger press as shown on the left, cuts down on the amount of time it takes to make each burger and ensures all your burgers are the same size and so cook at the same time
