Date and Cheese Bread

one 450g/1lb loaf Hot Cold
Vegetarian Fruit Savoury Bread
Cheddar Cheese, grated
teaspoons Baking Powder
Dates, stoned and chopped
teaspoon Dry Mustard
Preheat the oven to 190C, 375F, Gas mark 5 and grease and flour a 1lb Loaf tin. Sift the flour, baking powder, mustard, salt
and pepper into a bowl. Rub in the butter
with your fingertips then stir in the grated cheese and chopped dates.
Set aside 2 teaspoons of the beaten egg for brushing and combine the remainder with the milk. Add to the dry
ingredients and beat thoroughly.
Spoon the mixture into the loaf tin. Brush with beaten egg and bake in the centre of the oven for 45 minutes until golden
brown and firm to the touch. Serve either
hot or cold, sliced and buttered.
