Walnut Plum Crumble Recipe    Veg  HT  DP  English  40mins

Serves 4   Hot  Vegetarian  Dessert  Pudding  Fruit  Nuts  England  British  Europe

Ingredients
675g/1½lb Ripe Plums,  stoned and quartered

150ml/5fl.oz. Water

1 tbsp Demerara Sugar

The Juice and grated zest of 1 Orange

For the Crumble

75g/3oz Butter
125g/5oz Plain Flour
50g/2oz Sugar
50g/2oz Walnuts, chopped

Instructions

1. Pre-heat oven to 200C, 400F, Gas Mark 6.  Place the plums, water, Demerara sugar, orange juice and zest in a saucepan, bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, rub the butter into flour with your fingertips  until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. 

3. Stir in sugar and walnuts, mixing well.

4. At the end of the cooking time, transfer the plums to a shallow ovenproof dish and sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the top. Bake for 25 minutes until golden. Serve hot with custard.
