e.g. apples, plums, pears, firm peaches

1. In a bowl,
rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until it resembles
fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and add enough
water to form a soft dough. Make into dumplings
about the size of a golf ball.

saucepan with 450ml/15 fl.oz. Water. Bring to the boil
then carefully drop the dumplings into the
boiling liquid. Cook steadily for 20 minutes.
3. To serve -
transfer to a warmed serving dish, sprinkle with sugar and serve hot.
