Ingredients
4 Firm Pears, peeled and stalks removed
360ml/12fl.oz. Water
1 tbsp Caster Sugar
1 Vanilla Pod
1 tbsp Lemon Juice 100g/4oz Plain Chocolate (check ingredients)
15g/1/2oz Butter 4 Scoops Vanilla Ice Cream (check ingredients)
Instructions
1.
If necessary, cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear so they can stand
upright without falling
over.
2.
Place the water, sugar, vanilla pod and lemon juice in a large saucepan. Heat gently,
stirring, until the sugar dissolves.
3.
Bring to the boil then add the pears. Reduce the heat then simmer for about 15 minutes
until just tender.
4.
Remove the pan from the teat and leave to cool. Lift the pears out of the syrup using
a slotted spoon, transfer to a dish, cover and refrigerate for several hours. Reserve
the syrup.
5.
When almost ready to serve, break the chocolate into a heatproof mixing bowl and
add the butter. Place over a pan of simmering water and stir until melted.
6.
Remove the pan from the heat and beat in 3 tablespoons of the reserved pear
syrup.
7. To serve - arrange the pears on a serving platter, standing them upright. Place scoops of vanilla ice cream between each one then spoon the hot chocolate sauce over the top of the pears. Serve immediately.
