History of the English Premiership

The F A Premiership was formed in 1993 by the then top clubs in the Football League Division One.  The principal reason for them breaking away from the football league was to gain more control over television rights to show live matches, which was expected to increase coverage revenue into the clubs with satellite companies such as Sky vying for the rights.

Since its inception, the Premier League has been dominated by Manchester United, who won have won the title 10 out of 16 years.
