Fishing Waters

Haddock belong to the family Gadidae - same as Cod. It is a round bodied seawater (marine) fish, growing up to 3 feet long, although it is not generally sold at weights in excess of 3.5kg.

Haddock classed as a "white" fish, and found primarily in the North Atlantic.  Although the flesh is not as white or as as flaky as Cod, it has a slightly sweeter taste, which is why it is a very popular fish in the UK both fresh and smoked and is the fish of choice used to make the Scottish specialities - Finnan Haddie and Arbroath Smokies - both smoked.  It's also popular in other  North European cuisines and in Northern America/Canada.

Suitable substitutes for haddock include Cod,  Hake, Catfish, Halibut.
