  Royal Ascot

Go to:-    2008 Major Race Meetings  Sporting Events Main Page

Royal Ascot is one of the most popular and iconic race meetings in the UK season. Generally held over 5 days, it has been long associated with high fashion and good food and drink.

The origins of the Royal Meeting aren't really known, however the first four day meeting took place in 1768 with the meeting as we know it today having begun in 1807 with the introduction of the Gold Cup.

The third day of Royal Ascot is traditionally the most popular day and is is known as “Ladies’ Day”, the day when stunning (and ludicrous) hats are shown off by lady race goers.
