 Student Cooking and Recipes

This is a series of articles offering advice to students on subjects such as cooking on a budget,  shopping for food, store-cupboard staples,  cooking tips,  kitchen equipment,  basic kitchen and food hygiene plus lots of easy, nutritious and delicious recipes which won’t break the bank.

Budgeting

Most likely you will have a finite amount of money per month from which you will have to pay your rent and bills and perhaps pay for books and/or tuition fees and clothes as well as feeding yourself.

Take 30 minutes out to write down all your expenses so you can decide how much you're able to spend on food each week. Once you have the figure you should stick to it faithfully as you go through the month, otherwise you could end up eating baked beans on toast for seven days running …. every month.

There’s more to cooking than just utensils and ingredients, so your first shop will probably be more than your usual weekly budget as you will be buying other essential kitchen items as well as most of the food basics.
