A Weekday Menu Recipe

 

 

 

Creamed Cabbage     Veg  HT  ACC   British  15mins

    

 

Serves   4      Hot   Vegetarian Vegetables   Accompaniment  Gluten Wheat Free  Eggless  Britain  Europe

 

 

Ingredients

450g/1lb Firm Cabbage, green or white, finely shredded

A knob of Butter

6 tbsp Double Cream

Freshly Grated Nutmeg

Salt and plenty of Black Pepper

 

 

Instructions

 

 

1. Bring a large pan of lightly salted water to the boil, add the cabbage, reduce the heat, partially cover and simmer for 5-8 minutes until just tender. Drain well in a colander.

 

2. Meanwhile, melt the butter in the saucepan, add the cream, nutmeg, and plenty of black pepper and mix well over a low heat. Do not boil.

 

3. Return  the drained cabbage to the pan and mix until thoroughly coated and heated through. Transfer to a warmed serving dish. Serve hot.

 

For those who don't like Brussels, this is a welcoming alternative to serve at Christmas or Easter.
